ANNA VALLAT
Tulipe (2024)
In January, the artist encountered the annual statistical report on feminicides (gender-based crimes, frequently the consequence of domestic violence) in France in 2023, which revealed that 102 women had been killed. This incident initiated a series of conceptual artworks in remembrance of these women, who were not only victims of a criminal act but also of a profoundly misogynistic system. These paintings serve to symbolically represent each life that has been abruptly ended, only to return to dust. The title of each work bears the name of one of those women.
